Da Nang – A great destination
in the central Vietnam

Da Nang is a beautiful city located on the east coast of my country Vietnam.

It is situated in the Central of my country, between Thua Thien - Hue and Quang Nam Province.

In term of history, the city was established early from 192 AD. Then, the region was the ancient Cham city of Singhapura ("City of the Lion"). During French colony period, the city was called Tourane.

Later on, this region was host to a U.S. air base during the Vietnam War. In the 1960s, U.S. troops used the air base to store and mix defoliant Agent Orange (dioxin) before the toxic chemical was loaded onto planes and sprayed over swaths of Vietnam.

The war has gone, now the city with a population of nearly 1 million is looking to the future, and gradually become an attractive destination for tourism.

Located just north of the equator, the central city has a tropical monsoon climate, which is mostly hot and humid. The temperature ranges from 19°C to 35°C over the course of a year.

The city’s charms include a beautiful beach with blue water and white sand, a museum displaying artifacts from the ancient Kingdom of Champa, a nature reserve region where visitors travel by a cable car and enjoy pristine beauty of vast mountain and primary forest, or just simply, a riverfront promenade where locals sip iced coffee. Travelers can arrive there by airway through Da Nang International Airport, which is newly refurbished and located only 2 kilometers west of the city center. As of July 2013, beside domestic flights to other Vietnam’s big cities like Hochiminh, Hanoi, Haiphong, the airport offers direct flights to major destinations in the region like Seoul (South Korea), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Singapore, Hongkong (China), Siem Reap (Cambodia).

Several of Vietnam’s best hotels and resorts are located along a stretch of prime coastline. These include Fusion Maia Resort, Furama Resort, Vinpearl Luxury, Sandy Beach Non Nuoc Resort, Hyatt Regency Danang Resort & Spa, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, Pullman Danang Beach Resort, Grand Mercure, and Novotel Danang Premier Han River.

Some important facts about the city:

  • Area: 1,255.53 km²;
  • Population: 951,700, as of 2011;
  • One of the major sea ports in Vietnam (along with Haiphong and Hochiminh ports);
